Position Overview
Experienced Transformer Design Engineer required to design, develop, and support power and distribution transformers for industrial and utility applications. Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop core, winding, tank, cooling and accessory layouts for power and distribution transformers.
• Perform mechanical and thermal calculations to ensure structural integrity and cooling performance.
• Prepare detailed drawings and BOMs using CAD tools for manufacturing and assembly.
• Collaborate with electrical design teams to integrate electrical and mechanical requirements.
• Support prototype build and testing, witness factory tests, and analyze test data.
• Develop and maintain design standards, procedures, and documentation in line with client and industry requirements.
• Coordinate with procurement and manufacturing to resolve production issues and ensure quality.
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Residency: Transferable residency required.
• Experience: Proven experience in transformer or heavy electrical equipment mechanical design.
• Technical skills: Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar); experience with thermal and structural analysis tools is an advantage.
• Standards knowledge: Familiarity with relevant standards such as IEC and IEEE for transformer mechanical design.
• Testing: Experience supporting factory acceptance tests (FAT), routine and type tests, and interpreting test reports.
• Soft skills: Strong communication, documentation, and cross‑discipline coordination abilities.
Preferred Skills and Experience
• Experience with cooling system design (ONAN, ONAF, OFAF) and conservator/OLTC mechanical arrangements.
• Knowledge of materials selection, welding practices, and pressure vessel considerations for transformer tanks.
• Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal assessments.
• Prior exposure to manufacturing processes, vendor drawings review, and quality control in transformer production.
• Experience working with EPC contractors, utilities, or OEM transformer manufacturers.
